Biliteracy Dual Language Program

Gypsum Creek Middle School is proud to announce our first year and cohort of Dual Language programming for 6th grade students.  Students enrolled in this opportunity take Spanish Language Arts, Social Studies in Spanish, and/or a "Special" such as Physical Education or Health in Spanish.  For more information about Dual Language in Eagle County Schools, please visit this web page. Vision: For students to attain their Colorado Seal of Biliteracy Certificate upon graduating from High School.

Mission: To educate and empower students to reach their full biliteracy proficiency potential while enhancing their cultural competency.

Program:

  • Extends the Dual Language Program for students that have elementary dual language background
  • Students are part of a cohort that progresses through all three years at GCMS

  • Students in the cohort attend English Language Arts Class where materials are presented in English and Spanish while continuing to work on their Colorado Seal of Biliteracy requirements

  • Balanced instructional approach using literacy, language, and content area in both languages through a co taught model

  • Potential for students to transfer out if academic proficiencies are not met

  • Students have the option to take Spanish as a World Language (WL) elective
